February 2010 – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! |
 |
| We especially need someone who is interested in building our social media outreach through Facebook, the website and linking us with people who are interested in either volunteering or supporting Nyota in other ways. We also need help to develop and manage our SPONSORSHIP program. Contact Lynda at Kuhnlj@mapleleaf.ca if you are interested! |

| We spent a couple of weeks with the children and staff in January. Life at Nyota is wonderful – the children and staff are really coming together as a family. The food was great – lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, many coming from our own garden. We bought the children two more bikes so we have about 10 in all. Often we would go for bike rides into the local communities along the dirt roads and paths. It was great fun. We already have a number of volunteers booked for this summer but we need more! |

Spoke to Ivan today. They held a Christmas party for all the children with dancing, playing soccer and a great meal. They all had a wonderful time. The children are on their Christmas break until January 6th. They are all doing well at school - two of the older boys (Dickens and Isaac) are among the tops in the school. There is no telling how far these kids will go with a little help from us.

We held a very successful art auction on November 29th, sponsored by Richardson GMP and FTC Canada. Over 60 artists donated works from sculpture to jewellery. We raised over $20,000, which takes us half way to raising the funds we need to build a permanent home for these children! Other fundraising is ongoing, including selling Masai beaded bracelets that are fantastic - appeal to all ages. If you want to help sell these wonderful bracelets email kuhnlj@mapleleaf.ca |
